as a mama to some home learners - I am constantly sorting out my philosophy, on life, on education, and really ... on what I want my children to learn. And you know what?? What I actually want them to learn is that they don't HAVE to learn anything

~ they GET to learn about whatever they want ~ they GET to explore their interests, their hearts' desires, themselves ~ they GET to find out what their passion is, and start to pursue that.

I want them to learn that everything is within reach if they are truly interested and motivated. Will the ABCs and the math facts and such come as a result of that? Absolutely - they will learn those things in the context of needing them for their everyday life and as they pursue their dreams and passions. My role in their education is to provide them with the resources, opportunities, and support to try out new things as they work to discover their passions. To help them learn what skills they will need to achieve their dreams and to assist them through the inevitable failures.

I want them to know that these are THEIR lives and they can choose how they unfold!

I will follow this post in a few days with Kaya's and Keidis' learning plans (for the upcoming 'school' year) which they have been thoughtfully creating over the summer.
